I started my undergrad fine arts education in painting, drawing, and printmaking. During my sophomore year, I was ushered into a darkroom by a classmate and, like generations of struggling painters before me, got hooked on photography.
As I was rushing through the Black & White photo classes, I noticed some weird brown and blue prints on the drying racks. I learned there was an Alternative Photography class, where they experimented with historic photo processes. The class was called “The Antiquarian Avant-garde” and it was a perfect match for my obsession with process and novelty. Combining process with image provided layers of meaning I couldn’t find with traditional or digital processes.
These are some of the antiquarian images and prints I made.
